Export readiness program

News article released on Thursday 7 February 2008

The Greater Shepparton City Council is offering small businesses in the wine and food processing industries the opportunity to participate in a free export readiness training program.

Business Development Officer Alicia Keogh said the program will give those businesses that are interested in, or close to exporting, the strategies and knowledge they need to take the next step.

"A series of training sessions and networking events will be held to give participants every opportunity to learn as much as they can to be export ready." Ms Keogh said.

"These events will give participants the opportunity to network with business owners who have been successful in the international market.

"Representatives from successful export businesses, Government representatives and Council representatives will all be invited to speak at these events.

"Participants will be matched up with a successful exporter, encouraged to meet with their mentor on a regular basis and will be fully supported by the Council.

"The Council recognises that food processing and wine are two of the region's key agricultural economic generators and many of the businesses in these industries are already successfully exporting.

"Their success provides an opportunity for smaller producers who are interested in exporting to utilise their skills and knowledge."

The program will run from March to October, with one training or networking event scheduled each month.

All businesses are welcome to participate in the program, regardless of any association or industry body membership.

Funding for the program was received from the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.
