The Council has a Street Tree Master Plan for the approximate 22,000 street trees that it manages in the urban areas across Greater Shepparton. The Street Tree Master Plan was adopted at a Council meeting held on Tuesday 4th May, 2004.

The Council manages around 22,000 street trees in urban areas across Greater Shepparton.  Approximately 400 advanced street trees are planted under the Council’s annual program, which includes street tree replacement and new subdivision planting.

Appropriate tree selection for street planting is critical for a well managed streetscape.  Appropriate street trees require minimal long term maintenance, provide environmental benefits, and provide improvement to the aesthetics of all areas.

The Street Tree Master Plan was prepared to ensure the controlled development of street planting in Greater Shepparton, resulting in a streetscape that is both attractive and coordinated. The master plan will form part of a street tree policy to address all tree management issues faced by the Council.

'Street Tree Master Plan Discussion Paper' provides a summary of the Master Plan, and describes the implementation process to be followed.
