Sustainability and Environment Strategy
Greater Shepparton City Council has received funding from the Victorian Government's Sustainability Fund under the Victorian Local Sustainability Accord to develop a Sustainability and Environment Strategy.
The development of the Sustainability and Environment Strategy will help Council to identify and prioritise environmental sustainability activities with improved integration across Council strategies and plans.
The Sustainability and Environment Strategy will also increase the capacity and understanding of environmental sustainability issues across Council and the community.
Upon completion of this project, Greater Shepparton City Council will have produced a coordinated strategy providing clear guidance on actions and targets addressing environmental sustainability issues.
It is also hoped to increase community participation and awareness of Council goals, strategies and actions to address environmental sustainability issues and opportunities.
Sustainability and Environment Strategy Stakeholder Reference Committee Chair Cr Chris Hazelman said to develop a comprehensive and relevant strategy Council needed input from the community.
"Greater Shepparton residents are invited to complete the community survey to ensure their environmental ideas and concerns are considered during the development of the strategy."
He said sustainability and understanding environmental issues was something everyone needed to think about.
"The strategy will develop an overall vision and framework, which will guide Council's future activities and understanding of environmental and sustainability issues." Cr Hazelman said.
"Community input, guidance and feedback is an essential component of the development of the Sustainability and Environment Strategy.
"I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in the environment to donate a small amount of their time to a very worthy cause."
