Crouching Emu Project

Crouching Emu Project

‘Dhurringile’ is the Aboriginal word for ‘Crouching Emu’.

The Crouching Emu project aims to create an environmental corridor along Dhurringile Rd in Tatura between the Midland Highway and Toolamba/Rushworth Rd over five years between 2006 and 2010. A large threat to the landscape along Dhurringile Rd is exotic plants. However there are still remaining stands of native Grey Box and Yellow Gum trees, Golden and Silver wattles, and Wallaby and Spear grasses. Removing weeds and replanting with local plant species will encourage fauna species to return, linking important habitats to the north and south of Tatura, while enhancing the entrance to the town.
