Native Vegetation Removals

Under the Department of Sustainability and Environments’ (DSE) Native Vegetation Framework, a permit is required to remove, destroy or lop native vegetation.

It is illegal to remove native vegetation without a permit unless an exemption applies, and prosecutions have occurred. Only 3.0 per cent of remnant native vegetation remains in the Greater Shepparton, which makes it vitally important to protect and enhance any remaining vegetation. As a result of this removal, the habitat of our native fauna has been lost, and our water quality has been reduced. Before removing any native vegetation, please contact council or DSE (Benalla Office – 5761 1611) to find out if a permit is required.
