Building and construction sites can be major contributors of litter and sediment into our waterways.
This is because they often work on sites exposed to wind, and with bare soil located next to stormwater drains.
Greater Shepparton City Council jointly funds a Stormwater Education Officer who works with local builders to ensure that litter and sediment from building sites does not enter into our waterways, with many builders making improvements to their sites to meet good environmental practice.
Various brochures have been developed to assist in this process.
Since 2005 Council has sponsored an award at the annual National Water Week awards night that recognises good practice in litter and pollution prevention from building sites.
