National Water Week is an annual event held during October throughout Australia.
Since 2005, the Greater Shepparton City Council has been involved in National Water Week, organised in our area through Goulburn Valley Water. Numerous activities throughout Water Week are held for school children, and free activities are offered for people in the area to learn more about our most precious resource.
2009 free activities included an open air movie screening of Happy Feet at Thompsons Beach in Cobram, canoe tours along the Goulburn River and water activities, including an appearance by Tapstar the water saving superhero, during the Twilight Walk to Kidstown. Many student activities and competitions were also run, including water themed writing, photography and art competitions culminating in an awards night which celebrated water in our area held in Shepparton.
Greater Shepparton City Council has sponsored the Building Industry Award for Best Practice in Stormwater Management for the last 5 years, acknowledging the work of our local builders in preventing soil and litter from leaving their building sites and entering our waterways.
As 2010 approaches, more information will be posted on this site and Goulburn Valley Water's website (link below) advertising activities and competitions for this great event.
