Composting At Home

Composting at home has a major role to play in reducing the amount of material that is currently going to landfill and is a great way for single person or family to reduce their impact on the environment.
Home composting is a major aspect of the regions reduce, reuse and recycle campaign. A recent audit of household waste has shown that almost half of the waste being produced by the community is compostable.
Why Compost?
- Composting is the aerobic breakdown of organic matter which can then be used as a nutrient rich soil enhancer for your home garden
- Compost is a great, nutrient high, substitute for artificial fertilizers that will also significantly decrease water consumption in your garden.
- Kitchen and garden waste as well as paper and cardboard are all compostable and since roughly half of your household waste is comprised of this it means that composting will save you money.
- Composting is a great way to help in the fight against global warming, by reducing the amount of material heading out to landfill, as methane gas (a powerful greenhouse gas, 21 times more potent than Carbon Dioxide) is produced from the anaerobic breakdown of landfilled material.
