Your kerbside recycling bin is the bin with a yellow lid and blue body and is collected on alternate fortnights to green organics, the same day your garbage is collected.

What material can I place in my recycle bin?

Recyclable plastic containers are identifed with a symbol normally located at the bottom of the container.

You may now include plastics containers numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, in your recycling bins.

  Plastics Code 1 - PET

Polyethylene Terephthalate

i.e. Soft drink bottles

Plastics Code 2 - HDPE

High Density Polyethylene

i.e. Milk bottles, cordial and juice bottles

Plastics Code 3 - V

Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride UPVC

i.e. Clear cordial and juice bottles

Plastics Code 4 - LDPE

Low Density Polyethylene

i.e. Ice cream lids, garbage bags

Plastics Code 5 - PP

Polypropylene

i.e. Ice Cream containers, yogurt pots

Plastics Code 6 - PS

Polystyrene

i.e. Yogurt pots plastic cutlery, hot drink cups, take away containers

 

Miscellaneous (most often polycarbonate (PC))

i.e. Water cooler bottles, sunglasses, DVDs, iPod and computer cases, signs and displays, certain food containers, nylon

What material can't I place in my recycle bin?

Councils resource recovery centres are able to offer a wider range of recycling services and are able to recieve most of the above items for recycling.

What happens to the recyclables after it has been collected?

After your recycling has been collected, it is transported to the VISY materials recovery facility (MRF) in Springdale, where it is processed and recyclable materials are seperated from any contaminants. 

The plastic bags supplied from the supermarket cannot be placed in the recycle bin

Do not fill plastic bags with recyclables and put it in the recycle bin as plastic bags are NOT recyclable

If your bin is exceeding 80 kilograms in weight it will NOT be collected. Please remove material prior to the next collection.
