The Black Box 2010
This is our most innovative mini-season which aims to broaden the range of theatre we present, while building a whole new audience.
These are NOT shows that are typically in the main season. We have sought out works for this Black Box season that are new, edgy, surprising and sometimes, even a bit ‘confronting'. This is theatre which breaks the rules and pushes the boundaries. Our ‘Black Box' offerings may be works of theatre or music. They may be serious or comic.
In the past, we have kept the shows a secret, but we now recognise our audience has moved beyond the gimmick of the ‘mystery flight' and people have asked for a deeper engagement with the work and the artists. Part of this is actually knowing something about the show in advance. So this year, we say farewell to the ‘blindfold tasting' and move into a new era of ‘Black Box' experience.
Theatre going is about enjoying the anticipation, excitement and risk and we hope this special new season will ramp up all these aspects and we offer you four of the best for 2010.
BLACK BOX #2
Angus Cerini in ‘Wretch'.
WESTSIDE PAC Tuesday 24 AUGUST, 8.00pm
A gut-wrenching journey into the world behind the ‘offender'. Unwatchable and unmissable.
BLACK BOX #3
Unstrung Heroes
EASTBANK CENTRE Tuesday 31 AUGUST, 8.00pm
A comical show about a string quartet.

Unstrung Heroes is a night of music, comedy, trivia, fun and possibly even a free set of steak knives!?
If you think you've seen a string quartet in action before, think again. This is Australia's funkiest string quartet, Alto, with a dash of piano, tin whistle, or who knows what, here and there. Presenter, Sophie Kesoglidis, has audiences begging for more, as she amuses with quirky anecdotes and reveals trivia about the songs and bands on the programme. Hear all your favourite hits from Bohemian Rhapsody to Eleanor Rigby, even tango to Bluegrass. They'll have you tapping your feet, laughing and singing along as they obliterate the word "conservative". Unstrung Heroes is all about great music, hilarity and surprises you never thought possible. Don't forget your air guitar!
BLACK BOX #4
Red Stitch Actors Theatre in ‘Red Sky Morning'.
WESTSIDE PAC Tuesday 14 SEPTEMBER, 8.00pm
An extraordinarily dramatic telling of a too familiar world.
The Shepparton Black Box Season is made possible thanks to the support of the Sidney Myer Fund.
Audience Advice: Performances in the Black Box Season may contain strong language and sexual references.
