2010 Australasian Schools Cycling Cup

The Australian Schools Cycling Cup comes back to Shepparton & Dookie!

The 2010 Australian Schools Cycling Cup will see over 1000 high school cycling enthusiasts converge on Greater Shepparton from Australia and the Oceania region. After a successfully debuting as the Australian Schools Cycling Cup in 2009 the event has now gone International with schools from the Oceania region now eligible to compete as well as the exciting Olympic sport of BMX now being added to the schedule to create a three day cycling festival.
Participants will compete in a variety of cycling disciplines including road events with a road race, individual time trial and teams time trial all being held on closed street circuits in and around Dookie. There will also be mountain bike downhill and cross country as well as a hill climb being held at Mt Major in Dookie. BMX will be held in Shepparton at the new UCI accredited facility at the Shepparton Sports Precinct which has been specially built for the 2010 BMX National Championships.
The disciplines are as follows:
Road racing:
Riders start in a bunch and race over a specified distance (refer event schedule for category distances). Winners are determined by time.
Individual Time Trial
The Individual Time Trial is a race against the clock. Riders depart at intervals and are timed over their category distances.
Teams Time Trial
Minimum 3 riders or maximum 4 riders compete against the clock in formation over category distance at intervals. Time is taken on 3rd rider across the line.
Hill Climb
The Hill Climb is a race against the clock. Riders depart at intervals and are timed up the climb.
Cross Country
Riders will complete laps of a specially designated course at Mt Major
BMX
The BMX competition will be conducted at Shepparton’s new UCI standard course. Please note, due to course difficulty, competition will be limited to licensed competitors only (BMXA license).
Riders will compete in minimum of 3 x motos with points being awarded across the three. Progression to the finals will be dependent on points.
BMX competition will be conducted on points system, with invitational finals being held. 20" and Cruiser categories will be conducted.
The 2010 event will be conducted in Dookie, Mt Major and Shepparton as follows:
Each school will be awarded points across each discipline to arrive at the Champion Male and Female schools. The Champion schools will be awarded the Peter Bartels Perpetual Trophy. PLUS the UCI Road World Championships will be conducted in Geelong in September/October 2010 and as a special award, the winning teams from each category will be invited to attend the U23 Male Road Race, with a visit from the senior Australian cycling stars.
