Bush Market on again

News article released on Wednesday 11 January 2012

Shepparton’s CBD will come alive in February, with the annual Bush Market to be held on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February.

This year the market will be coordinated by Greater Shepparton City Council, drawing on the expertise of the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Shepparton Show Me.

The CBD will be a hive of activity as traders drastically reduce prices and place their sale stock on display over two big days.

Council's Manager Economic Development Geraldine Christou said the Bush Market is very important to the local economy and Council is committed to supporting the event.

"The event has been running for more 30 years which is a reflection of its success and I encourage businesses to start planning now to ensure they maximise the retailing opportunities that the market provides," Ms Christou said.

"One of the new initiatives we have introduced this year is the implementation of a steering committee, comprising representatives from Council, Shepparton Show Me, Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and retail and commercial stakeholders.

"The steering committee will be responsible for advocating on behalf of the retail and commercial sectors, brainstorming ideas for bush market activities and providing general advice to Council.

"We will be sending out information regarding the Bush Market to businesses over the coming week but if anyone would like additional information I encourage them to contact Council."

Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Renee Grant said the Chamber of Commerce looked forward to working closely with Council to ensure a successful event.

"This year there will be entertainment including music, buskers and street entertainers which will again create a fantastic family atmosphere" said Ms Grant.

Meanwhile, Barry Smith Chair of Shepparton Show Me said that businesses and consumers look forward to the Bush Market each year and has committed Shepparton Show Me support to ensure its success.

"The Bush Market has typically been a highlight for businesses and shoppers alike and draws an influx of shoppers from surrounding areas all looking to snap up some fantastic bargains over the two days." Mr Smith said.
