The Shepparton’s 2009 Carols by Candlelight event in December was so successful that the organising committee has been able to make donations to local community arts and volunteer groups.
The Carols by Candlelight event held on 20 December at the Queens Gardens attracted a record crowd of more than 4000.The Carols by Candlelight Committee Chairperson Bruce Wilson said the 2009 Carols by Candlelight event had proven to be highly successful and is a Christmas celebration which continues to grow each year.
"The 2009 Carols by Candlelight event donated a total of $1600 to local arts and volunteer groups as a result of sales from programs and candles at this year's event," Mr Wilson said.
"The groups who volunteered their time and talent to make the event so successful and who benefitted from the funds raised included the Shepparton Brass Band, Shepparton Theatre Arts Group, Goulburn Valley Pipes and Drums, Kiwanis Shepparton and Kiwanis Sunrisers.
"The Carols by Candlelight Committee would also like to thank the Greater Shepparton City Council, Shepparton News, Goulburn Murray Credit Union, Foott Waste and SPC Ardmona Factory Sales for their continued support of the event.
"It's wonderful to see so many people taking the time at such a busy time of year to relax and celebrate with their family and friends".
The Carols by Candlelight Committee consists of community volunteers and work has already commenced on the 2010 event.
