For the first time, childcare will be offered five days a week in Murchison.
Greater Shepparton City Council is working with the Murchison Neighbourhood House to get the full-time service running at 23 Impey St by late September.
The result comes after an Australian Government moratorium was lifted on the approval of new “in-venue” family daycare centres. Previously family daycare was restricted to private homes.
Family and Children’s Services Manager Steve Dawkins said extensive community lobbying by Murchison residents helped achieve the result.
Mr Dawkins said the new service would provide a much needed option for working parents with young children.
“Council has been working with the staff at Murchison Neighbourhood House for the past 12 months to achieve this result,” Mr Dawkins said.
“The arrangement between council and the Murchison Neighbourhood House is a model that could be used in towns across the region.
“Council will monitor the childcare centre to ensure it is a safe and high quality option for parents.”
Childcare was previously available once a week to parents in Murchison at the Murchison Kindergarten. This service will continue.
