Simple actions can make a huge difference to our environment - like cleaning up your local area. For 20 years, hundreds of thousands of Australians have come together every year to protect the health of our environment.
Be part of Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 7 March and join the Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group with support from RiverConnect in cleaning our beautiful river environments.Greater Shepparton City Council's RiverConnect Project Officer Renee Warren said we need to look after our river environments and fully value what we're lucky to have.
"The public needs to be aware that the costs of cleaning up our rivers and bushland are not just measured in dollar terms, but the damage to the environment is often irreversible.
"One group who has been doing wonderful things locally is the Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group.
"The group has been working successfully around our urban river settings for a number of years, with members often enjoying a day out in the bush with family and friends."
President of the Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group, Royce Dickson said, "Initially group numbers were low, but with a bit of persistence, residents could see the impact we were having and wanted to be a part of something great."
"It is an extremely satisfying feeling when you can go for a walk and admire work that you've been part of," Mr Dickson said.
So grab your gloves, hat and drink bottle and help protect our rivers and bushland.
Meet members from the Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group at the gates of the Shepparton Cemetery, Rudd Road, at 9.00am on Sunday 7 March to register.
