Greater Shepparton City Council is continuing preparations for the big match between Melbourne Victory and a Victorian Premier League selection side to be held at Deakin Reserve on Saturday 4 July 2009 between 2.00pm-4.00pm.
Greater Shepparton Manager Major Events and Promotions Mark Francis said around 200 tickets have been sold so far but a large crowd of a few thousand people is still expected."We are recommending people pre-purchase tickets to avoid long queues," Mr Francis said.
"If people pre-purchase their tickets from the Visitor Information Centre they also go into the draw to win the game ball which will be signed by the Melbourne Victory team.
"There will also be security screening at the gate, to meet Football Federation Australia standards, so people should allow time for that too.
Tickets can be purchased from the Council Offices, 90 Welsford Street Shepparton and the Greater Shepparton Visitor Information Centre, 534 Wyndham Street, Shepparton.
Entry for adults is $12, concession $8, and children $2. Tickets will be sold at the gate, but pre-sold tickets are encouraged to avoid long queues.
Council's Manager Recreation Services Brendan Gosstray said there will be no training at Deakin Reserve this week to make sure the ground is in excellent condition for the Melbourne Victory match.
"To ensure Deakin Reserve is in top condition for Saturday we have decided to give the surface a rest for a few days," Mr Gosstray said.
"The decision follows the rain and a couple of football matches over the weekend, which has left the ground with a few rough spots.
"This led us to approaching the clubs, who have agreed to relocate trainings this week just to give the ground a chance to recover.
"This decision has been made as it's important that we meet Football Federation Victoria standards, so we can attract more games like this to Shepparton in the future."
Football Federation Victoria (FFV) and Greater Shepparton City Council are bringing the match to Shepparton, as part of a series of practice matches before Melbourne Victory begins its A-League season.
