Shepparton Regional Saleyards received the first load of bushfire affected cattle yesterday and expect another three lots of cattle arriving by truck today.
Greater Shepparton City Council and Shepparton Regional Saleyards Manager Jock Hicks offered to hold stock from the affected municipalities in the saleyards earlier in the week and the offer has already been gratefully accepted by farmers.The cattle are being held and cared for by the Saleyards at no cost to the farmer.
A local farmer, through the Victorian Farmers Federation, donated 180 bales of hay to the saleyards to feed any stock coming into the yards from the fire areas and he and other local farmers have offered to provide more if it is required.
Another local generously provided round feed rings for the Saleyards to use for the hay.
Forty cattle arrived from Yea yesterday after a local agent arranged the transportation for his client. The farmer has decided to offer the young steers for sale on Tuesday.
