Free green organics drop offs extended

News article released on Monday 15 March 2010

Greater Shepparton City Council has extended the free green organic waste drops offs for storm affected green waste until Sunday 21 March 2010 at 4.00pm.

Council's Team Leader Waste Services George Bitcon said Council has accepted storm affected green waste free of charge at its Shepparton and Ardmona Transfer Stations since the storm hit last week.

"There was continuous demands for the green waste drop offs during the weekend and in response Council has extended the free service for another week," Mr Bitcon said.

"This will allow residents a little more time to clean up and will assist Council in the cleanup of the whole municipality.

"The sheer quantity of green waste dropped off last week was enormous.

"There were about 1,700 visits that equated to approximately 4,500 cubic metres of green waste dropped off to the transfer stations last week."
