Council approves funding for sporting projects

News article released on Wednesday 17 March 2010

Greater Shepparton City Council approved funding for three sporting projects totaling $67,000 at its Ordinary Council Meeting yesterday.

The projects were successful in applying for funding under Council's Our Sporting Future Funding Program - Major 2009/2010.

The Our Sporting Future Funding Program assists community organisations with funding for small to medium size facility development projects.

Greater Shepparton Councillor Michael Polan said the projects funded represented a range of community organisations.

"The successful applications were received from McEwen Reserve Tennis Club and Shepparton North Tennis Club," Cr Polan said.

"Council will also be providing funding to Rumbalara Football/Netball Club provided they are successful in their grant to the Victorian Government's Department of Planning and Community Development.

"The projects to be funded include surface upgrades and an irrigation system upgrade, which will all improve the facilities of the clubs and the safety of users.

"McEwen Reserve Tennis Club will use the funds to resurface six concrete tennis courts at the Shepparton Sports Precinct facility with a rebound synpave surface.

"The Shepparton North Tennis Club will use their funding to resurface four concrete courts with a synthetic surface at their facility.

"I congratulate all those involved in the application process and strongly encourage any community organisations that have a project which needs funding to apply in the next round of funding."
