Marketing Greater Shepparton's Small Towns

Four towns in Greater Shepparton have received an exciting boost, with Township Marketing Plans launched this week for Dookie, Mooroopna, Murchison and Tatura.

The aim of the plans is to promote the towns’ businesses to its residents and tourists.

Business Development Officer Alicia Keogh said the plans were developed by small business expert Linda Hailey, with the assistance of the Council’s Economic Development Department.

“The plans have been developed based on the existing infrastructure and businesses of each town,” Ms Keogh said.

“All the strategies recommended in the plans are cost-effective and take into consideration the resources of the Council and the businesses.

“The plans give local businesses the opportunity to contribute to a strategic marketing plan that addresses the specific needs of the business community.

“The Council’s Economic Development Department will work with the businesses in each town to achieve the recommendations made.

“We launched the plans in late September and have also been able to fund some key recommendations for the towns that were identified in the plans.”

The projects that have received funding are:
* Dookie – a postcard promoting the tourist attractions in town to be distributed at shops and through the Visitor Information Centre
* Mooroopna – a flyer to be distributed to residents in Kialla promoting the ease of shopping in Mooroopna
* Murchison – a postcard promoting the services available and tourist attractions in town to be distributed at shops and through the Visitor Information Centre
* Tatura – a flyer to be distributed to employees who travel to Tatura for work promoting the services that are available in the town.

Funding for the Dookie, Mooroopna and Murchison Township Marketing Plan development was made available by Regional Development Victoria, while the Council contributed the funding for the Tatura plan.
