Greater Shepparton City Council regrets to inform the Merrigum community that the skate park will be closed as of today until further notice to allow for repairs to be carried out to the skate park.
Works will include installation of hand rails on several elements and the levelling of ramp surfaces to ensure optimal skateability.
Council's Acting Manager Recreation and Parks Brendan Gosstray said the decision to close the skate park was made following an audit of the facility which recommended the need to carry out these works.
"Council aims to provide a safe and enjoyable facility and the repairs at Merrigum Skate Park will ensure that this aim is achieved for the Merrigum community," Mr Gosstray said.
"We realise this is an inconvenience, but it is important we maintain our facilities to the highest possible standard."
Council expects that repairs will begin in the coming month, however at this stage cannot indicate when the park will reopen.
