Greater Shepparton City Council agreed to lease the restaurant and two retail premises at SPC Ardmona KidsTown to Hayes Catering Event Management at its ordinary Council meeting today.
The agreement will fill the two current vacant facilities at KidsTown, which are planned to be turned into a produce store, showcasing local food and produce.Marloss Ten Pty Ltd (trading as Hayes Catering Event Management), who operate the Eastbank Café, have purchased the leases for the restaurant and adjacent shops.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Eric Bott said this provided a fantastic opportunity to enhance tourism in the area.
"The proposal will complement the attractions already provided at KidsTown, which is one of Greater Shepparton's key tourist attractions. With over half of the estimated 150,000 annual visits coming from outside the region, this new lease represents a great opportunity to spread the message about our wonderful local produce.
"The shops will have food and wine tasting which will be great as it will give local businesses the chance to showcase their produce and provide people with the opportunity to purchase locally grown and made goods.
"The existing restaurant will continue to operate as a venue for functions, events, meetings and dining."
