Road Safety Plan out for comment

News article released on Tuesday 16 March 2010

Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking feedback on the draft Greater Shepparton Road Safety Plan 2010-2014 after it was adopted in principle at the March Council meeting.

The Road Safety Plan aims to reduce the risk of injury on our roads and paths, so that people of all ages and abilities are free to travel on the road and path network to their chosen destinations, safely and with confidence.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Dobson said the draft road safety plan builds on the work achieved by the previous plan.

"The plan aims to improve road safety for all users, as well as running road safety programs in schools," Cr Dobson said.

"It is important that Council takes a lead role in providing safe roads and footpaths for our residents.

"Council has worked with a number of community organisations to develop this plan including Vic Roads, Victoria Police, Road Safe GV, DECA and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development."

Councillor Kevin ‘Gunna' Ryan said road safety is extremely important in our municipality.

"Not a day goes past where people don't point out safety issues around roads and crossing, and this is the method for people to provide that feedback," Cr Ryan said.

"I encourage people to look at the document and give us your views, as road safety does affect everyone in some way or another."

A copy of the Greater Shepparton Road Safety Plan can be found on Council's website www.greatershepparton.com.au or from Council's Customer Service Counter, 90 Welsford Street Shepparton.

Submissions on the proposed plan close Friday 9 April 2010 at 5.00pm and can be forwarded via a variety of mechanisms:
