Small towns online

Media Release: Wednesday 5 December 2007

The Greater Shepparton City Council will develop websites for Dookie, Murchison and Tatura to promote tourist attractions, events and activities to visitors and locals.

The websites will be funded by the Council as part of the township marketing plans recently developed for each town. Business Development Officer Alicia Keogh said websites were one of the main sources of information for tourists and a web presence was becoming increasingly important. “The websites will promote tourist attractions and businesses in each town and give local residents a central point of information about upcoming events and activities,” Ms Keogh said.  “The websites will include things such as dates of community meetings, school activities as well as photos and reviews of events.  “When people are considering moving to a small town, they want to get a feel for the town’s community. “Websites will allow prospective residents to search for the towns on the internet, view a calendar of events, photographs and find out what the town’s icons are. “It will also provide an opportunity for locals to tap into events and new businesses they may not already know about.” Anyone interested in being involved in the website development should contact Alicia Keogh on (03) 5832 9848.
