Spring Car Nationals to remain at Showgrounds

The Spring Car Nationals will be held at the Shepparton Showgrounds for the next five years, following approval by Greater Shepparton City Council at its March ordinary Council meeting today.
A trial of the showgrounds as the event location was held for the 2009 Spring Car Nationals weekend.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Dobson said a number of conditions would need to be adhered to.
"The conditions which were in place for last year's event, will again be in place for the next five years," Cr Dobson said.
"The conditions include limiting the time frame for event activities, implementing a traffic management plan and continued monitoring of the event to allow for continuous improvement.
"The event is a major event for Greater Shepparton, injecting millions of dollars to the local economy so it is important it remains a viable event for the municipality.
"The MacIntosh Centre and Showgrounds provides a fantastic venue for the Spring Car Nationals, attracting some of Australia's best show cars and presenting a family friendly environment.
"Council will continue to work with organisations to minimise disruption to residents, maximise the benefits to retailers and provide easy accessibility to patrons."
Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Kevin Ryan said it was important organisers had a set venue for the event.
"Council needed to provide some stability to the organisers, so the event would remain in Greater Shepparton.
"It is the biggest event on the Greater Shepparton events calendar and attracts visitors from all around the country."
The 2010 Spring Car Nationals will be held from Friday 26 until Sunday 28 November 2010.
