The Greater Shepparton City Council has put together a program of free events for Goulburn Valley women in need of some pampering and indulgence during the drought.
Drought recovery officer Janet Congues said that despite the recent rain, the pressure was still on as a result of the “big dry”
“It’s important to switch off from that constant pressure and take care of yourself,” Ms Congues said.
“Women often play the role of the carer in families but tend to neglect taking time out for themselves.
“During the current drought, finding the time and money to nurture yourself can be a challenge so that’s why the Council is giving all women the opportunity to take part in one of five free events in five weeks.
“The events will offer a diverse range of activities to help people unwind.
“There will be the chance to learn ancient eastern practices such as Tai Chi, hear from professionals on how to put balance back into your day, be treated to a free beauty ritual such as a foot or hand massage and indulge in local produce.”
Ms Congues said event locations included Kialla West, Tatura, Dhurringhile, Dookie and Orrvale. Everyone is encouraged to join in, bring a friend and take the time to be pampered close to home.
“We want women from all backgrounds to take part in this,” Ms Congues said.
“While farming women were the first to be affected by the drought, we are now starting to feel the impact trickle throughout the community reaching far and wide across a range of service providers and other walks of like.”
