The Greater Shepparton City Council provides the following services through the Home and Community Care Program, Aged & Disability Services. This program supports frail older people, carers and people with a disability to remain living at home and be part of their local community.
Eligibility for services is determined following an assessment. A fee is charged according to the level of household income and household circumstances.
For all enquiries, please contact the council's Aged & Disability Services Department on 5832 9785.
An assessment visit is conducted by trained staff who are sensitive to the varying needs of residents who require assistance.
The Care Manager conducting the assessment will provide information, advice and assistance about services provided by the council and by other community organisations in the Greater Shepparton area.
Once you and the Care Manager have agreed on the services to be provided, the Care Manager will then:
This service provides assistance with a range of household tasks such as vacuuming and general cleaning as well as personal requirements like shopping and paying bills. Due to the high levels of demand, waiting lists for this service may be in place.
Trained Support Workers are available to assist frail older residents, and residents with a disability, with the tasks of showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and monitoring medication.
If you are the carer of a frail older person or a person with a disability who cannot be left alone, a Support Worker can stay with that person and provide the necessary care while you take a break.
The Planned Activity Groups offer a range of social activities designed specifically for frail older adults and people with a disability.
The program aims to enhance the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of participants in a pleasant group environment as well as providing respite care and support for carers.
Lunch, morning and afternoon teas are served and transport is provided as required. Each program is designed to respond to the individual needs of participants.
Planned Activity Groups operate at Dookie, Shepparton, Mooroopna and Merrigum.
The Council's Home Safety service offers safety-based services to residents who, because of frailty or disability, are unable to undertake the tasks of maintaining their home. Minor maintenance tasks that are undertaken include safety related tests such as:
The Council is unable to provide lawn mowing, window cleaning or other cosmetic style services.
Handrails, ramps and similar aids can be installed to enhance personal safety around the home. An assessment by an Occupational Therapist is required for this service.
A nutritionally balanced meal is home delivered to those residents who are unable to cook for themselves.
A 'home cooked' community meal provides clients with a pleasant alternative to a home delivered meal.
Participants of all nationalities are able to meet in a friendly environment, to renew past friendships and create new ones. Community meals are held in various locations such as Community Houses and Senior Citizens Centres.
Community Meals are prepared by council staff and volunteers. Special dietary requirements are catered for and transport is provided as required.
Several community groups offer a regular social opportunity for their members:
This service is available through Goulburn Community Transport on 5831 8515.
Senior Citizens' Centres are located in Mooropna, Tatura, Merrigum, Murchison and Shepparton.
