Each year seven communities in Greater Shepparton hold community celebrations in their townships on Australia Day.

Awards will be presented at ceremonies on Australia Day, Wednesday 26 January 2011, to residents who have carried out community work in a number of areas including community service, sport and the arts.

The Australia Day awards are a way of thanking the hard working citizens who contribute to a harmonious and successful community. Community work often goes unrecognised and these awards provide an avenue to acknowledge and congratulate hard working community members.

Greater Shepparton City Council will award a Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year (aged under 27) for Arcadia, Dookie, Mooroopna, Murchison, Shepparton, Tatura and Toolamba.

From the nominations in each town category the overall Greater Shepparton Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year winners will be announced.

In addition to Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year the following awards will be presented for each town:

Nominations are open from around September to December each year, and forms are available from the customer service desk at Greater Shepparton City Council, 90 Welsford Street Shepparton, or the links below, from Australia Day committees or by contacting Council's Australia Day Coordinator on (03) 5832 9540.
