Greater Shepparton City Council has developed a health prevention initiative to encourage Council staff, families and community members to reflect on ‘Anti Poverty Week’ and consider what we can do to help those around us that may be experiencing hardship. Last year we promoted anti-poverty from Friday, 16 October to Saturday, 22 October 2011.
A health initiative developed after consultation and initiated in the current Greater Shepparton Public Health Plan's strategic objectives has seen the introduction of Smoke Free Zone Signage for implementation at designated points to encourage a healthy environment for all.
Greater Shepparton residents are encouraged to get to know their neighbours during Social Inclusion Week, which is an annual program, held in the last week of November each year. The aim of the week was to connect local communities, strengthen relationships and support those experiencing loneliness and isolation.
