Greater Shepparton City Council has developed a health prevention initiative to encourage Council staff, families and community members to reflect on ‘Anti Poverty Week’ and consider what we can do to help those around us that may be experiencing hardship. Last year we promoted anti-poverty from Friday, 16 October to Saturday, 22 October 2011.

Anti Poverty Week aims to:

Food insecurity rates in the past twelve months up to March 2011 in Greater Shepparton were at 8.1 %, higher than the State average for Victoria of 5.6% according to Deptartment of Health's records and reported in our Goulburn Valley Community Profile. (Released March 2011, Goulburn Valley Primary Care Partnership). This reflects that over 8 per cent of our own population area have found it difficult to feed themselves at least once during teh twelve month period.
