Soon after your baby is born, the hospital or midwife will contact the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service.
A MCH nurse will contact you and arrange a time to visit you and your baby at home. After your home visit, regular follow up and appointments will be made for your to visit one of the Council's MCH centres (usually the centre closest to where you live).
The MCH Service is a free service and available to all families with children aged 0 to 6. The service aims to promote the health and wellbeing of children and provide information and support for:
On occasions the local MCH nurse may refer families who are experiencing difficulties to the Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service. This is also a free service.
An after hours MCH advice and support line is also available and can be contact on 132 229.
The MCH central number is (03) 5832 9312. This number is used to make appointments, general enquiries and to speak to a MCH nurse. The central number is one of a number of initiatives designed to improve the service to families with young children in the municipality.
