The Greater Shepparton Best Start Breastfeeding Workgroup has developed a kit to show organisations how easy it is to create a breastfeeding friendly workplace. It contains a step-by step guide, sample policies and an informative booklet for women showing how they can be prepared to breastfeed successfully whilst working or returning to study.
Women choose to breastfeed for very important reasons – it is simply the best start they can give their baby in terms of nutrition and future health benefits such as less asthma and increased protection from infection.
Employers can benefit by establishing a workplace culture that is ‘breastfeeding friendly’.

To assist employers in establishing themselves as a ‘breastfeeding friendly’ organisation the Breastfeeding Workgroup has developed a kit for employers and introduced a number of other initiatives to support women returning to work and study. These include the publication of the locally developed Breastfeeding and Returning to Work and Study pamphlet avaliabe for download below.
A number of workplaces have been chosen to trial the Breastfeeding and Returning to Work Kit. Local breastfeeding specialist Mandy Faram will assist organisations to look at what needs to be done to provide the necessary facilities and work arrangements for employees wishing to continue breastfeeding their baby, and fulfil their responsibilities in the workplace.
