The Book Swap Box initiative covers all of Greater Shepparton and aims to improve access to children’s books. Located in various businesses and early childhood centres across the municipality, Book Swap Boxes are a great way to get good quality second hand children’s books into homes and keep children occupied when they visit Book Swap Box venues with their family.
The Greater Shepparton Community Literacy workgroup launched a book-swap initiative in 2007, providing the opportunity to swap good quality second hand children's books for free.
Thanks to support from Bunnings Shepparton and Kiwanis Sunrisers, more than 30 book-swap boxes, full of second-hand children's books, are located at various businesses, organisations and early childhood centres across the municipality.
The initiative, which is a core activity of the ELF (Early Learning is Fun™) program, aims to improve access to children's books and encourage children to read more. Children can swap books for free or simply read stories while visiting the venue with their family.
To find out how to obtain a book-swap box for your business, contact Belinda Whitelaw at Greater Shepparton City Council on 5832 9790 or GV Regional Library on 5832 2600.
