Best Start Elf Book Bags
The Best Start ELF Book Bag initiative has been consolidated over the past 4 years from 2 separate book bag strategies to one municipal wide strategy.
Bags are provided to parents by Maternal and Child Health nurses at their child’s 4 week, 8 month, 18 month and 3.5 year ages and stages check. All book bag materials are age appropriate and include:
- A story book
- A parent information booklet
- A nursery rhyme sheet
- An activity sheet
- Library membership information and service information
The book bag initiative aims to promote the benefits of reading to children from a young age and encourage parents to read regularly with their children right from birth. It provides parents and carers with the resources to read, sing, talk and play with their children and why such practices are imperative to the language development and literacy skills of children.
