Smiles 4 Miles is an exciting health promotion program for preschool aged children currently being implemented in the City of Greater Shepparton.
The program involves developing policies and prevention strategies to ensure better healthy outcomes for all children, by providing an environment where making the health choice becomes the easy choice for children.
The Greater Shepparton City Council is working in partnership with Goulburn Valley Health and Dental Health Services Victoria to promote the following messages:
By incorporating these messages into our own and children’s lives, we are working towards better health both now and in the future. Good habits start at an early age, the Smiles 4 Miles program encourages children to select water as the preferred drink and fresh fruit and vegetables as the preferred snack food.
There are many good reasons for promoting oral health in young children. Good oral health is an essential part of general health and wellbeing. The ‘first’ or ‘primary’ teeth are important for young children to develop their eating abilities and habits, speech patterns and appearances and later to guide the eruption and positioning of their permanent teeth.
