Ready 2 Drive
Greater Shepparton secondary school students are getting set to hit the road, with the ‘Ready 2 Drive’ campaign.
Assisting Young Drivers in Greater Shepparton
Greater Shepparton has embraced this proactive approach to encouraging safer and more responsible road user behaviour by our Year 10, 11 and 12 students.
Ready 2 Drive has an active committee chaired by Mr Gary Golding, principal of Mooroopna Secondary College, and comprises representatives from each of the secondary schools, Notre Dame College, Wanganui Park Secondary College, Shepparton High School, Goulburn Valley Grammar School and McGuire College, Greater Shepparton City Council, Victoria Police, TAC, VicRoads, RoadSafe Goulburn Valley, Goulburn Ovens TAFE, Driver Education Centre of Australia, Shepparton News, and co-opted members as required.
Tailoring a separate program to each year level involved, Ready 2 Drive provides the following events for students:
- ‘Keys Please’ - a 90 minute presentation to Year 10 students and their parents.
- ‘Looking After Our Mates’ - a presentation and workshops on alcohol and its effects for Year 11 students.
- ‘Muck Up Day’ - a powerful video about a preventable fatal crash during end of year celebrations involving a learner driver, his family and peers. It is aimed at Year 12 students.
Ready 2 Drive is supported by a number of local organisations and community groups, including the Greater Shepparton City Council, Victoria Police, VicRoads, TAC, DECA, Roadsafe Goulburn Valley, Goulburn Ovens TAFE and Murray Bushrangers.
