Dookie Recreation Reserve Community Facility

The Dookie Recreation Reserve Committee approached the Council with a proposal to improve sporting facilities at the reserve

The Dookie Recreation Reserve Committee of Management in conjunction with the Dookie Football/Netball Club and Dookie Tennis Club approached Council with a proposal to improve facilities at the Dookie Recreation Reserve.

Many of the existing facilities at the reserve were in poor condition and no longer met the needs and expectations of the community.

In partnership with these groups, the Council engaged Melvin Recreation Consultants to develop a concept plan for the reserve. Following a lengthy consultation process and considerable fine tuning, a final plan and report was adopted by the Council in 2003. The concept plan outlined a range of new development, including the relocation of tennis courts, construction of new netball courts, new change rooms, a community centre to replace the functions of the Dookie Memorial hall and new waste treatment system.

In 2004, the Council completed the construction of a 3 court netball/tennis complex and progressively over 2005 the community has constructed a further two tennis courts and relocated a tennis pavilion.

An extensive planning and design process for new change rooms and community facilities should be finalised by the end of 2005, ready for construction over 2006.  Final project estimates are still to be determined the building and associated infrastructure is expected to be well in excess of $1.2M, with funds to be sourced from all tiers of government, the business sector and local community.

Construction has began on the new multi purpose building and is estimated to be completed by July 2007.
