Volunteer opportunities

This section contains information on volunteer opportunities within Council.

There are many opportunities to volunteer within the Council.

Meals on Wheels

Businesses and individual volunteers are encouraged to participate in the Meals on Wheels program and make a worthwhile contribution to their community. Not only will they be helping deliver essential meals, but will also provide much-needed social contact for people who may be housebound.

Volunteers are required on a regular basis and once allocated to a ‘meal round' are then rostered four weekly on a day that suits them. Meals are delivered from 11.15am daily and all that is required is 1 - 1˝ hours per month and a vehicle. A voucher to assist with fuel costs is provided. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a police check and unfortunately cannot be rostered until this is completed.

Planned Activity Groups

Planned Activity Groups offer a wide range of activities for frail older adults and people with a permanent disability who may be socially isolated. Volunteers are required on a regular basis to assist staff in various aspects of the program. These may include assisting with outings, centre based activities or food preparation.

Visitors Information Centre

Volunteers at the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) provide a first point of welcome and information for visitors to Greater Shepparton. VIC volunteers play an important role as ambassadors for the Greater Shepparton area. Volunteering provides a great opportunity to share local knowledge, helping visitors to make the most of their stay. Being at the forefront of tourism activity in the region, VIC volunteers are often surprised to learn about the diverse attractions, activities and events which make this such a popular place to visit.
A regular commitment of at least half a day a week, for a minimum of six months is generally required, along with the following personal qualities:

SPC Ardmona KidsTown is a regional adventure playground built by the community of Greater Shepparton through the contribution of volunteer labour and materials from local businesses as well as major financial support from the Greater Shepparton City Council and SPC Ardmona. A key part of the overall philosophy of the playground is that it is provided free to the community (with a voluntary gold coin donation where possible).
