Unemployment levels in Greater Shepparton have fallen steadily, according to figures released recently.
The figures, released by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations show a quarter per cent drop for the December quarter.Greater Shepparton's unemployment level of 3.94 per cent was below the regional Victorian average of 5.1 per cent.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Eric Bott said there are a number of reasons why unemployment has fallen.
"This fall in unemployment levels can be attributed to the strong economy of Greater Shepparton," said Cr Bott.
"The area is experiencing record investment levels, new businesses and expansions such as Unilever in Tatura, which recently opened its new dry foods processing plant.
"The Unilever development has created 94 new jobs this year and we expect a total of 130 new jobs to be created over five years.
"The drop can also be attributed to the fruit picking season, which bring a large number of temporary workers to the region."
