Water: the Vital Element, 150 Years of Shepparton's Growth

A new history book developed by the Shepparton Heritage Centre details the development of Shepparton since it was declared a township in 1860.

Shepparton Heritage Centre committee has engaged author Martin Summons to help put the book together under the title Water: the Vital Element, 150 Years of Shepparton's Growth

Water: the Vital Element is a narrative history that will trace the development of Shepparton from the first crossing point of the Goulburn River at Macguire's
Punt and detail each of the 15 decades up to 2010.

The book is designed to be a quality, hardbound reflection of Shepparton's progress from 1860 with a flowing narrative, highlighting many humorous and anecdotal stories and events.

The narrative picks up on the importance of water in the ongoing development and growth of Shepparton and will include a range of specific historical events that highlight 150 years of progress.

The book, which is supported by Council funding, will be launched on 28 September and will be available at local book stores, Council office and online for $40.

Visit the Shepparton Heritage Centre's newly launched website www.heritageshepparton.com.au for more information about the book and general historical information.
